Does that mean the title interested them, but the video didn't? Or people liked it, but forgot to thank me?

Thank goodness that there was at least a rep system that gave me some info on what people liked. The two who thanked me told me why they liked it, and that encouraged me to keep posting. To me, the thanks system helps remind people that it takes time and effort to post stuff, and boards that have removed a version of a reputation system quickly dry up.

I won't name names, but there have been great boards that have died the moment the administrator loosened the rules on members contributing. Thanking a poster is such a small thing to ask for. Sometime I also close the WWGFA tab and forget to thank the poster. But that's no excuse to get rid of the system. So if the reputation points can be salvaged, I'm strongly in favor of keeping it.
I think most of us think the same. I am not posting so much lately because there is no interaction, no thanks or comments. So I think, well this does not interest people. Not sure if the number of views show interest or just checking and getting out.
I like the concept of reputation point but I wish we are more conscious about using it and how it impacts on the persons who post and keep motivating for posting.

You may select 1 option

I post things that I like to see because I think other people might like them too. I actually don't even check to see if anyone views or thanks me. It doesn't really matter to me in the end.

Tangentially related, watch the first minute of this and try not to scream. The rest of the video is pretty good too.

Yes, thank you. That is exactly what I am afraid of.

I agree that engagement with posts is still very low. Getting two points for a post with 90 views is actually relatively quite a lot if you see how many points most posts get. The only kind of topics that really get a lot of rep points are guys posting pictures of their girlfriend. In fact, comparatively speaking, you are one of the most appreciated members of the forum: 60 rep points for 59 points (at the time of writing). That's a lot!

This is not because not enough people enjoy your posts, it's just that there's a very small percentage of people who will take the effort to show any appreciation. There are other forums where individual posts may get dozens of likes, but those forums are substantially bigger than ours. Since we have quite a small member base, even if the number of people showing appreciation is the same relatively speaking, it's still gonna be a very low number in absolute terms. But it's a sample size: 2 likes on a post means that a lot of people liked it. Most just don't say anything.

There are also forums which require you to leave a reply in order to see links in a topic, or that grant access to a higher level once you reach a certain number of posts (like the old WWGFA used to do), which seemingly results in a lot of engagement, but is actually just people replying to get something they want (the dreaded 'thank you'-posts). I've always tried to avoid that happening here.

As it stands now, however, the poll shows that an overwhelming number of people would rather have the upgrade than the rep points, so I'm afraid it's going to be inevitable. But I'll do my absolute best to find a new plugin that gives us some sort of 'like'-system again. (Because, I'm sorry Dopefish, but that's just how the internet works nowadays. ;))

This is not really a demand that can be made either publically or privately on this forum or anywhere else for that matter in this kind of manner...
