Sugar Work Gloves/Mapa Vital 520
Hi All
Has anybody got any experience of sugar work gloves? I only spotted them recently, being used on a TV baking show. I believe they are designed to stop you burning yourself when handling hot, molten sugar for cake decorating and the like. They seem to be latex, but I'm not sure if they are lined or not.
An example here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sugar-Gloves-P ... B01DL14UO6
Quite expensive at nearly a £20 for two pairs, so wondered if anyone had tried them for non-baking purposes? Not mad on white as a colour, but always up for trying something different in rubber!

Re: Sugar Work Gloves
Those are Mapa Vital 520 (also called Mapa Gantex 520, some time ago), don't know why so expensive there.
https://www.mapa-pro.com/our-gloves/liq ... /vital-520
They have no grip, and yes, they are made of latex.
The lack of grip is perfect for sugar work, but other than that, is a household (or light industrial) rather thin latex gloves

Seems like the over-priced amazon item might be the only place to get them in the UK, but I'll keep looking.
They remind me a bit of the Kama Clean 708's (which seem to be discontinued), but shorter.

Re: Sugar Work Gloves
I have a pair in 7-7 1/2 size, unlined inside (hard to take off in summer ), super smooth (like the Cama Clean I suppose, I don't have them so I can't compare) They should be a bit more anatomical. They doesn't have a strong latex smell, but is a kind of latex smell I've never experienced on any other glove, is pleasant but like distant though. I bought them in a spanish app of second hand store, sealed, unused, less than 10€. So maybe is a bit hard to find.
Edit: Found a pair in USA (expensive in my opinion)

Edit 2: France is your best option, since Mapa is french. Just google "Gants à tirer le sucre". Shipping can be a problem though, good luck:

Re: Sugar Work Gloves
Look for a shop specialised in work clothing, maybe include the word "safety" in your search. Once I needed safety shoes to go to a coal mine, and I obviously browsed their glove selection out of curiosity. They had a huge range of gloves for kitchen work, and I was surprised that all products were less expensive than one would expect. This was 9 years ago, but my shoes cost only $75.

Re: Sugar Work Gloves
Thank you very much for that information and the photos - they look like they might be chlorinated. an unusual style of rubber glove! Mapa have a large range of gloves - we can get some here in the UK, but not all. And of course, they own Spontex which are stocked here.gopcha wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 6:22 pm

Re: Sugar Work Gloves
That's a great tip. We have a chain here called Arco who sell quite a good range of rubber gloves, although like everywhere, they seem to have reduced the range since Covid, in favour of disposableszrenjanin wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 10:08 pm Look for a shop specialised in work clothing, maybe include the word "safety" in your search. Hey, I have couple of pairs of these as well. They are nice and smooth inside and also outside, but definitely not chlorinated. They had some kind of powdering when new, but it wears off quickly and while they are quite "sticky", I like them a lot!

They sound absolutely amazing. I love rubber gloves that feel grippy/sticky!
Can't stand ones that are shiny and smooth.
I do like the name of the OPs Amazon gloves. Deco Relief Sugar Work Gloves
