Today, like most days, I popped in to the local supermarket, which is only about 2 minutes from me, to get a few things. And as usual I glanced at the small display of rubber gloves as I made my way towards the checkouts. But this time, instead of just some unbranded yellow rubber gloves, there was a great big load of Marigold red lightweight G01R gloves. I was totally stunned and my mind was racing with thoughts of buying some but my rubber glove fetishist brain was telling me that everyone would know why I was buying them so I bottled it. I really hope I can build up some courage as I can see that shop selling alot of cleaning products tomorrow.

I'm in the UK and the supermarket chain is Spar. I still haven't been brave enough to buy any yet but there's still loads there. Hopefully soon I'll man up.

Well I finally felt brave enough to buy a pair, along with a load of other cleaning materials, and as soon as I arrived home I thought I'd go to the toilet just to try them on for size. The just trying on idea was forgotten within seconds though as I pulled the second glove onto my hand. And a few sweaty minutes later I was so happy I'd finally actually brought them.

There is one small issue with these gloves, they're Marigold Handy lightweight gloves by the way and they are amazing, they're not the same as the Marigolds I loved back in the 80s.
Those ones were a darker red with a red, lightly lined, inside. I'm sure were named either featherweight or lightweight. Looks like my search continues.

Unless they've just really changed over the years.

I think you're right about the G01R gloves being the ones I remember from my youth. I definitely remember the red inside. The ones I brought from the supermarket don't seem to have a serial number. Just called Marigold Handy lightweight gloves.

The true G01R gloves sadly seem to have now disappeared - they were available until quite recently, but in the big Ansell take over, they seem to have vanished.

So many good gloves have either gone or been changed (e.g. Vileda) since this buy-out coupled with Covid and the dash for disposables, it's untrue
